Honorable Delegates, Directors, Student Officers, and Esteemed Guests,

Welcome to the Human Rights Council. My name is Danielle Pan, and I am a sophomore at Nanjing International School (NIS). It is a true privilege to serve as your Deputy President for this year’s SUZMUN Conference.

Having participated in fourteen Model United Nations conferences, I have witnessed how MUN brings together passion, intellect, and diplomacy. From late-night lobbying sessions to moments of breakthroughs in committees, every conference reminds me that youth voices are not merely the leaders of tomorrow, but active changemakers of today.

This conference, I will be focusing on the topic “Combating orphanage trafficking practices in Cambodia and Nepal.” Behind every statistic lies a human story—a child separated from family under the guise of “aid.” Addressing this issue requires empathy, global cooperation, and accountability within the humanitarian system. I encourage all delegates to approach this topic not only with analytical precision but also with compassion and creativity.

MUN, to me, is more than just a platform for resolutions. It is a space to question assumptions, challenge global inequalities, and discover the power of dialogue. I hope each of you will take this opportunity to engage fully, speak courageously, and listen deeply.

If you have any questions before the conference, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am excited to meet you all in April and to witness the thoughtful discussions that will take place in this council.
Warm regards,
Danielle Pan

President

Hello delegates!

I am Millie, a senior at Shanghai American School Puxi (SASPX). This conference marks the 7th year of my MUN career and my 17th conference. I am honored to have this opportunity to serve as your President of the Human Rights Council in SUZMUN XIV, focusing on the issue of “combating human rights issues as a result of the proliferation of gang violence in Haiti”.

The escalation of the issue of gang violence continues to fuel widespread human rights violations in Haiti, including killings, kidnappings, child rights violations, gender-based violence, and so much more. With the gangs’ extensive territorial control, the justice system and state security forces are unable to enforce law, allowing impunity for these abuses to persist.

Through our efforts, I am confident that this conference will be able to shine light on these issues most concerning us today.
Looking forward to seeing you all!

Deputy President

Greetings Delegates!

My name is Sophie, and I’m currently a sophomore at Shanghai American School Pudong. I began my MUN journey in 7th grade as a delegate in the HRC committee of SHAMUN. Three years and eleven conferences later, it truly feels like a full circle as I return to this committee. Thus, it is my utmost honor to serve as your deputy president for HRC in SUZMUN XIV.

The topic I will be focusing on is “Developing international frameworks to halt the use of child soldiers in the Central African Republic”. When preparing for this topic, it is advisable that delegates not only consider methods that directly combats the usage of child soldiers, but also consider long-term methods that reintegrates such children back to society. The more perspectives you consider and incorporate into your resoultions, the stronger they become.

I look forward to hearing many fruitful debate and creative solutions.

See you all in April!
