Honorable directors, distinguished delegates, student officers, and esteemed guests,

My name is Jessica Kim, and it is my privilege to serve as your Secretary-General for SUZMUN XIV, together with David.

Having been part of SUZMUN for four years now, I’ve watched generations of delegates, student officers, and secretariat members grow and pass on what they built. Even after all this time, the memory of my first conference as a nervous freshman, standing at the podium with shaky hands and a shakier voice, remains vivid and continues to remind me why creating a welcoming and supportive environment is so important. I hope to carry forward the vibrance that past generations have brought to the conference, and continue creating a space where every delegate feels their voice can be heard and can make a difference.

Our theme this year, “Boats Against the Current,” speaks to the persistence required to make meaningful change, both within debate and beyond it. Like Gatsby reaching for his green light across the bay, progress always requires resilience, even when the current feels against you. Whether this is your first conference or your tenth, I hope this weekend gives you the confidence and support to keep steering forward, even when the challenges feel daunting.

As we gather for SUZMUN XIV, I encourage you all to embrace every part of this experience. Be brave, speak with confidence, defend your resolution when someone tries to attack it, and take the opportunity to connect with someone new during breaks. These moments, small as they may seem, are what transform a conference into something you carry with you long after the final gavel falls.

I truly look forward to welcoming you all in April and witnessing the unique perspectives and passion you bring to our conference.

David Wang - Secretary General

Honorable chairs, distinguished delegates, esteemed directors, and guests,

I am David Wang, and it is my utmost honor to serve as the Secretary General of SUZMUN XIV alongside Jessica.

SUZMUN XIV marks the fourth iteration of SUZMUN, of which I will be a part. I still distinctly remember my eighth-grade self nervously deciding to raise a POI during SUZMUN XI. Since then, I have had the privilege to learn from countless delegates, chairs, and secretariat members who have passed through the halls of SUZMUN. Importantly, these role models have taught me the weight and responsibility each and every member of SUZMUN carries. Thus, as Secretary-General, I am committed to crafting a rewarding yet inclusive experience for all, in which each delegate has the opportunity to voice their opinions and contribute to a meaningful dialogue.

The theme of this year’s SUZMUN, “Boats Against the Current,” aims to highlight the challenges behind solving global issues. I would like to emphasize that while resolving many of the world’s issues seems impossible, progress will always be– and can only be– achieved through relentless collaboration and dialogue between different parties.

I encourage all delegates, whether this is your first or last conference, not to hesitate to make speeches, ask POIs, send amendments, etc. I sincerely hope that SUZMUN XIV will become a memorable experience for you and hold a special place in your hearts.

I am looking forward to seeing you in April!

Jihee Kim - Deputy Secretary-General

Greetings to all participants of SUZMUN XIV,

My name is Jihee Kim, and I am honored to serve as the Deputy Secretary-General of the fourteenth iteration of SUZMUN. I am also a senior in this school, which marks my last and third year of MUN journey.

This year’s theme, “Boats Against the Current”, reminds us that progress is never linear. Growth requires patience and the mindset to face the countless challenges that come our way. So, to all delegates, I hope that the challenges you encounter at SUZMUN XIV, no matter how big or small, won’t hold you back, but instead give you the strength to keep moving forward. Always remember that the waves you face are only temporary, you are the ocean itself.

As all my MUN experiences have shaped me, I hope SUZMUN XIV becomes a place to confidently share your thoughts, exchange opinions, and meet new people. Let SUZMUN be your chance to gain new perspectives, step outside your comfort zone, and embrace your challenges. May the memories be filled not only with worry and anxiety, but also with the confidence and strength to carry forward into the future.

Looking forward to the day we meet, see you all in April!
Ethan Wang - Deputy Secretary-General

Greetings, delegates, and a warm welcome to you all!

My name is Ethan Wang, and it is my greatest honor to serve as Deputy Secretary-General for SUZMUN XIV. I am currently a freshman at Suzhou Singapore International School, and 2025 marks the fourth year of my MUN journey, as well as my fourth SUZMUN experience. I can clearly remember the first time I attended this conference, back when I was a shy, confused 6th grader in a committee room of forty people. The procedure seemed impossibly confusing, and the action of even approaching the podium was daunting for me. Yet, with every year and every SUZMUN, I was able to improve upon myself and build up my courage in an environment that showed nothing but support.

Now, the opportunity has arisen for me to help in the organization of such a memorable conference, and I could not be more excited. Our theme for SUZMUN IV, “Boats Against the Current,” represents the struggle against overwhelming forces and the pursuit of dreams in the face of adversity. Through the conference, I believe that delegates could rise to be those boats, those unyielding advocates of ideals amidst a world of conflict.

For those delegates just starting with Model United Nations, I sincerely hope that our conference will be a memorable learning experience for your vibrant journey. And for those who are more experienced, I wish you the most fruitful and intellectually stimulating discussions in SUZMUN IV. I look forward to meeting all of you in April!
David Goodale - Deputy Secretary-General

Welcome, fellow delegates, esteemed student officers, and honorable directors!

My name is David Goodale. I am currently also a freshman in high school here at SSIS, and the start of my MUN journey dates to my first year in middle school. It is my utmost pleasure to serve as Deputy Secretary General for SUZMUN XIV. Four years ago, SUZMUN was the first conference I ever attended; at the time, I was as nervous and afraid as a 10-year-old could be. Trembling in fear as I stuttered through my speech at the podium, in front of what I thought was the most intimidating audience. Yet, with every unnerving approach to the podium and every quivering raise of my placard, I found myself home in this community and was captivated by the genuine encouragement and support that it always offered.

Today, I am honored to aid in the organization of such an enduring event and to support commencing journeys for upcoming delegates on this activity that has changed my life. To the delegates that are just starting our journey with this activity, I hope that this conference will give you the confidence and experience to grow, and for the delegates that are more experienced, let this conference give you the fruitful discussions and debate to continue building upon your adventure into the perspectives that shape our humanity.

Lastly, let our theme “Boats Against the Current” be the inspiration for you to continue persevering, row past your mistakes, and triumph over these waters shaped by the relentless currents of a world in conflict and reach a tomorrow where diplomacy and peace oversee a promising future. I look forward to seeing all of you in the near future!
