Marjorie Wang | Secretary General

Delegates, student officers, honorable directors, and most esteemed guests,

My name is Marjorie Wang, and it is my absolute honor to serve as Secretary-General for SUZMUN 2025, our school’s thirteenth MUN conference.
Starting on a more personal note - deciding to take on this role as one of the only seniors on the Secretariat team was a bold choice, yet one I never hesitated to make. Being part of MUN and SUZMUN has shaped my high school years in the most profound ways, becoming the foundation of some of my most valuable friendships and teaching me the power of effective teamwork—both within debate chambers and in the intricate process of organizing a conference. My last year of high school would simply not be complete without seizing this final opportunity to remain a part of the MUN community.

This brings me to the theme for this year’s conference: Carpe Diem—Seize the Day, which vouches for the key idea that MUN is not merely an exercise in debating global issues or exchanging arguments to “win.” Instead, it is a platform that amplifies student voices, fosters global-minded collaboration, and allows us to immerse ourselves in the challenges our world faces today, a space where we plant the seeds of innovation, knowing they will grow into boundless possibilities for the future.

Since my first MUN conference, SUZMUN 2019, I have carried with me the encouragement and support of the seniors who once guided me—a shy, anxious sixth grader—through my first steps in MUN. Over the years, like many of us in this community, I have experienced firsthand how MUN shapes individuals into those who can stand firm in their beliefs and embrace the responsibilities that come with voicing them. I hope that SUZMUN XIII will not only continue to offer such transformative experiences but, with its deliberate focus on today’s most pressing issues, will also inspire delegates to fully engage with the present moment—analyzing complexities, challenging perspectives, and seizing the day as active change agents.

Welcome to SUZMUN XIII:)

Jihee Kim | Deputy Secretary General

Dear delegates, chairs, honorable directors, and most esteemed guests. Welcome to the 2025 SUZMUN conference!

My name is Jihee Kim, a junior student here and is honored to serve as your Deputy Secretary-General of this year’s SUZMUN. My MUN journey began two years ago - not as a delegate, but as an admin at my first SUZMUN conference. From behind the scenes, I watched the delegates engage in passionate debates, tackle global issues, and bring diplomacy to life. Seeing their energy and dedication was unforgettable, and it sparked a curiosity in me that quickly grew into something much deeper. What started as admiration and curiosity from sidelines soon became a passion of my own, and before I knew, MUN had became an integral part of my life. It shaped the way I think, communciate, view the world, influencing me in ways I never expected and pusing me to grow more. Now, as Deputy Secretary-General, I am increadibly grateful for how far I’ve come, and I want to ensure that every participant-whether delegate, student officer, director, or staff - feels just as welcomed, inspired, and empowered as I once did in SUZMUN.

Coming to this year’s theme, Carpe Diem, encourages us to seize the moment, embrace challenges, and make the most of every opportunity-both within debate and beyond. Whether you are debating, supporting, organizing, or in part of it in anyway, I hope SUZMUN becomes an unforgettable experience filled with learning, growth, and meaningful connections.

Once again, I wholeheartedly welcome you all and wish you a conference full of insightful debates, new friendships, and memories to cherish. I hope to see you everyone in the near future!

David Wang | Deputy Secretary General

Picture
Dear delegates, honorable chairs, esteemed directors and guests, welcome to SUZMUN XIII! My name is David Wang, a sophomore at SSIS, and it is my honor to serve as the Deputy Secretary General for this iteration of SUZMUN.

I first participated in a conference hosted by SSIS during SUZMUN XI— the first time SUZMUN was in-person post-Covid 19. In that regard, good fortune and circumstance have played an important role in the opportunities I have had the privilege of enjoying in my MUN journey. However, what struck me the most when I first stepped into SUZMUN wasn’t the quality of debate, the interesting topics, or the conference’s magnitude. It was the supportiveness, composure, and professionalism the secretariat demonstrated in the face of many challenges they faced throughout the conference that made my conference experience truly enjoyable— knowing that I could ask for help whenever I needed.

The qualities exhibited by my secretariat team 2 years ago has taught me much about what this job calls for. Thus, I am committed to serving SUZMUN XIII and building a conference where delegates feel included and have a valuable chance of engaging in meaningful discourses about word issues with fellow delegates.

I hope you enjoy the conference, and I look forward to seeing you all in April!

Jessica Kim | Deputy Secretary General

Esteemed delegates, student officers, directors, and honored guests,

Welcome to SUZMUN XIII!

My name is Jessica Kim, and it is my greatest honor to serve as the Deputy Secretary-General for this year’s SUZMUN conference.

Thinking back on my first conference in 2023, I remember it as both a daunting and exhilarating experience. Like most first-time delegates, I was apprehensive about finding my footing in a room filled with unfamiliar faces. Yet, what struck me most was not the intensity of debate, but the spirit of inclusivity that defined the experience. I was welcomed into a bloc that encouraged me to contribute, guided me through unfamiliar procedures, and inspired me to speak with confidence. That sense of camaraderie, of being part of something larger than myself, has stayed with me ever since.

As the Deputy Secretary-General for SUZMUN XIII, I wish to carry forward that same spirit of support and inspiration that shaped my own journey. This year, as we gather under the theme Carpe Diem, we invite participants from diverse backgrounds to seize the opportunity to exchange ideas, debate solutions, and grow as leaders in an increasingly interconnected world. I hope each and every one of you will embrace the opportunities to challenge yourself, collaborate with others, and leave the weekend with new insights and memories that will stay with you long after the final gavel.

I look forward to seeing all of you this April and witnessing the energy, passion, and insight you bring to the conference.

Melvin Morneweg | Deputy Secretary General

Dear delegates, student officers, distinguished directors, and honored guests,

Welcome to SUZMUN XIII! I am Melvin Morneweg, and it is an immense privilege to serve as you as the Head of Secretariat for this year's conference. As we gather for this event, themed "Carpe Diem," or "Seize the Day," we are reminded of the power and potential that lies within each moment.

Reflecting on my journey in Model United Nations over the past two and a half years, I recall my initial experience filled with both excitement and trepidation. The first time I stood before a room of peers, I was overwhelmed by the challenge of articulating my thoughts. However, I was fortunate to receive support from seasoned delegates who welcomed me warmly into the process, encouraging me to share my ideas and engage actively. The spirit of collaboration and camaraderie that I experienced then continues to inspire me today.

With "Carpe Diem" as our guiding theme, I am confident that SUZMUN XIII will be a platform for vibrant discussions and innovative solutions. This year, we are excited to introduce a three-day conference format that will allow for deeper engagement and the reintroduction of our traditional Crisis Committee, promising an exhilarating experience filled with unexpected challenges.Let us embrace this opportunity to forge connections, engage in impactful debates, and leave a meaningful mark on our world. Together, let's seize the day at SUZMUN XIII!I look forward to meeting each of you and embarking on this inspiring journey together.

SUZMUN Secretariat I Daniel Wang

Greetings everyone! My name is Daniel
Wang, a sophomore at SSIS, and it is my
honor to serve as both a member of the
SUZMUN XIII Secretariat team and deputy
president for HRC. I first joined MUN in
grade 8 and have fallen in love with it ever
since. I am more than honored to serve
alongside this wonderful secretariat team in
bringing you this year’s edition of SUZMUN,
under the theme of Carpe Diem. The fast
dynamic of today’s world means that in order
to fix the issues that face us, solutions need
to consider how situations may evolve in the
future but more importantly need to center on
bridging present gaps and solving the
disagreements in the current climate. I hope
that you will enjoy this conference to the
fullest, not just by working on solutions to
real-world problems, but also by having a
memorable experience enjoying the city of
Suzhou, having fun with your friends, or
making new ones.
