Disarmament and International Security
Daniel Wang (SSIS)Deputy PresidentHello delegates! My name is Daniel Wang, a freshman at Suzhou Singapore International School. This is my seventh MUN conference, and my second one as a chair.
My passion for MUN started way back in elementary school when I observed my older brother go to conferences wearing fancy suits and ties. My interest was immediately peaked, and I soon got the opportunity to experience it myself when I went to middle school. I am proud to say that MUN has taught me many skills that I definitely would not have had if I didn’t participate in it. For this conference, I will be focusing on the topic of “Measures to prevent the collaboration of Violent Non-State Actors (VSNAs) with governments and their repercussions in the Middle East and North African region.“ This topic is hugely important to many current armed conflicts in the world, and if you have any questions about it or the conference as a whole, please don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected] |
Hayden Zhao (SAS PD)PresidentHi delegates! I’m Hayden Zhao, a senior from Shanghai American School Pudong. It is my honor to be serving as the President of the General Assembly at SUZMUN XII. This is my third year in Model United Nations and my second time chairing, and sadly, this is also my final MUN conference in high school.
I joined MUN because in back middle school I was terribly bad at public speaking, and my English teacher at the time suggested me to do MUN, and so I did. The lessons and skills I’ve learned from MUN were truly valuable for a lifetime. I hope that you all will learn valuable skills and lessons through MUN as well, and don’t forget that we’re all here to help! The topic that I will be focusing on is “Addressing the Afghanistan-Iran water rights dispute”. Disputes about water rights between these two countries dates far back into the 1870s, and in 2023, clashes broke out between Iran and Afghanistan over rights of the Helmand river water. With the problem still not resolved to this day, tensions between the two countries grow tighter and tighter, and action needs to be taken as soon as possible. Now, delegates, it is up to you to resolve the issue, be creative, critical and research well. I can’t wait to meet all of you at SUZMUN XII! |
Deputy President (SSIS)Deputy PresidentGreetings, delegates! My name is Jiawen Khor, and I am a sophomore from Suzhou Singapore International School. It is my utmost honor to serve as the Deputy President of the General Assembly.
This is my second year joining MUN, with SUZMUN being my ninth conference, and my first time chairing. For this conference, I will be focusing on the topic of 'Resolving the Guyana-Venezuela border conflict.' This topic is a historical contention that not only challenges the principles of international law and territorial integrity but also holds immense implications for regional security and the potential of shared resources. I strongly encourage all delegates to research previous attempts, come up with creative solutions, and fully understand their country's stance. I look forward to meeting you all in May! |
