Jiwon Lee | Secretary General
Welcome to SUZMUN! My name is Jiwon, and I am delighted to be serving as the Secretary General for SUZMUN XII. As a senior at SSIS, this will be my third and last year as part of the SUZMUN secretariat team.
Before unpacking this year's theme, I'd like to share my love (or rather, obsession) for MUN. Over the past 4 years, I've learned a great deal from fellow delegates, student officers, and my exec team members. The excitement of being surrounded by a bunch of bright, passionate delegates eager to raise their placards, the rare moments of laughter breaking out from the most chaotic yet impactful speeches and amendments, and, most importantly, the achievement of consensus through heated debates–these are the moments of MUN that I cherish the most. |
Moving onto our theme, 'The Golden Hour' reflects our ambitions to condense the dynamics of global theatre into a meaningful concept. While the world moves away from the grip of the COVID-19 pandemic, symbolising the period just before sunset, the unresolved global conflicts and challenges emphasise the urgency represented by the medical definition of the golden hour. With this in mind, I encourage all delegates to engage in discussions that go beyond mere words and strive to make a lasting impact.
I hope that each and every one of you will look back on SUZMUN XII as a truly worthwhile experience. SUZMUN would not flourish without the passion and excitement of the delegates gathered here. See you all in May! |
Marjorie WangDeputy Secretary GeneralDear delegates, student officers, honorable directors, and esteemed guests,
Welcome to the 2024 SUZMUN conference! I am Marjorie Wang, a junior at SSIS, and it is my greatest pleasure to serve as Deputy Secretary-General for SUZMUN XII. As the first 3-day conference we’re hosting in 12 years of our history, SUZMUN XII will surely be an experience to remember. 5 years ago, SUZMUN 2019 was my first-ever MUN conference. As a beginner delegate, the thought of expressing my ideas to a room filled with strangers made me physically tremble; But, luckily, I was met with two experienced delegates who not only included me in the merging process, but also guided me to get involved and make speeches and POIs. The warmth and geniality I encountered at that SUZMUN conference continue to inspire me up to this day, and with “The Golden Hour” as the theme of this year’s conference, I trust that such a cordial spirit will continue to spark in SUZMUN XII, where delegates with varying perspectives shall come together with to form visionary consensuses. I hope that SUZMUN XII will be an inspiring and gratifying experience for you all, and I look forward to meeting all of you in the near future. |
Connor JohnsonDeputy Secretary GeneralDear delegates, students officers, directors, and guests,
Welcome to SUZMUN XII! My name is Connor Johnson, part of the secretariat team here in SSIS. After years of being unable to gather in person, we now have the opportunity to experience the excitement of the SUZMUN conferences face to face. In each committee, one may notice there is great diversity in background and level of experience of each delegate. Whether it’s your first MUN conference, and you’re hesitant to walk up to the podium and make your speech, or you have complex understanding and plentiful experience, we hope you achieve what our goal is for this conference: an opportunity for delegates to communicate. In my past years as a delegate in MUN, I remember how daunting the task of participating in the conference confidently felt. I feared that my speeches and POIs were imperfect and subject to possible criticism. However, with slow progression I was able to build up my confidence in the committee rooms and learned to express myself without hesitation. With this year’s theme, “The Golden Hour”, in mind, I want all delegates to look around their committee rooms and notice the range in levels of students, and if possible, provide a helping hand to the less experienced, and make them feel more comfortable while contributing to the conference. Find consensus among peers, and learn to compromise to achieve the best possible solution for everyone involved. Lastly, With the return on SUZMUN XII, I hope everyone has an unforgettable conference experience. |
