UN CSTD | UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development
Vera Woo (BISS PX)Deputy PresidentHello delegates! My name is Vera Woo, and I’m currently a Year 12 student attending The British International School Shanghai, Puxi.
I’m excited to chair your UN Commission on Science and Technology, and committed to ensuring proceedings are conducted with fairness, efficiency, and respect for all voices under the topic of “Addressing the digital disparity and ensuring equitable access to technology in developing nations.” There is an alarming technology gap between MEDCs and LEDCs, and it is your job to brainstorm ideas to fix this! As delegates, it'd be a good idea to find out your assigned country's strengths and weaknesses in the technological world, and how you may attempt to help or persuade other nations to help you, solve the issue. This topic requires critical thinking minds for problem-solving, negotiation, and consensus-building. It’s a topic relevant to our real world today and provides a chance for delegates to express and negotiate their solutions. I look forward to guiding and facilitating our discussions as we strive for progress, reform, and positive change! See you soon :) |
Sophie Sun (DCB)PresidentHello! I am Sophie Sun. It is my pleasure to serve as the president of the UN Committee on Science and Technology for this year’s SUZMUN conference. As a current year 12 student at Dulwich College Beijing, this will be my fourth year in MUN.
I will be chairing the topic of “Addressing the criminal usage of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) and deep fakes technology”. With the recent rise of artificial intelligence transforming our world, it's imperative to tackle the associated emerging challenges. These tools, while innovative, are increasingly used for nefarious purposes including fraud, misinformation campaigns, and violating privacy rights. As delegates, look into how to collaboratively develop and advocate for international policies that mitigate these risks, ensuring the responsible use of A.I. and safeguarding global digital security. I look forward to seeing you all in May! |

Sincerely hoping that this conference is going to become a trailing memory, I would encourage all delegates to have primary knowledge on all topics! Through our efforts, I am confident that this conference will be able to shine a light on these issues most concerning us today. Looking forward to seeing you all soon :) |
